Four of Swords (Reversed)

rind
by McCaela Prentice

he watches me pull pomegranates apart
     wants to be
running red down my forearms—
our bodies mangled in the night’s mouth

he is twenty; he is all teeth
     and still he
holds me too tightly for sleep—
we must both dream of being pulled apart
