0. The Fool (Reversed)

by Robert Beveridge
well, you thought, it seemed
like a good idea at the time, this
jaunt to Good Grief by thumb
and the occasional carrier pigeon.
your trail mix ran out somewhere
outside Sioux Falls and you took this
as a sign to turn north, catch 94
to 16 to 2 to 95 until at last
you see the Idyl Trailer Park
with your own eyes. here
you are however many miles
northwest of Glasgow and haven’t
seen a car for hours, but the swing
of your ponytail combined
with the harmonics of your
earrings mirror the way the sun
glints off the distant glass
of Vandalia. you decide
to take a detour to the place
where Milk River is both east and west
of the road, look
for the nearest flock.
