Ace of Wands

rewriting icarus
by Aika Adamson

I falter at the edge of the cliff
staring out to golden horizon;
my failures hold me down,
shackles and chains wound tight around my limbs.
Imagine wings:
      light and free, lifting, rising.

Icarus’ ghost shows me the way
but I’m rewriting the story into something kinder
           that’s what we’re here for, after all

Aika Adamson (she/her) is a half-Okinawan aro-ace poet who writes to share her experiences with the world. She is currently a student at the University of Arizona studying Classics and Linguistics and enjoys rambling about Vergil and other classic authors. When not writing, reading, or throwing people around with Aikido, Aika spends her time doting on her dogs and napping.
